What are Dedicated Servers?

When we talk about hosting servers, there are three major kinds - hosting servers, VPS (virtual private hosting servers) and dedicated packages. Shared hosting servers host many clients and so the resources per hosting account are restricted, VPS give you more configuration liberty, but also influence other private virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the freedom to perform everything you wish without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are generally much more expensive than shared web hosting servers or private virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is pretty simple. If your firm has a resource-absorbing web site, or just has very explicit web server setup requirements, the smartest choice would be a dedicated servers. For somebody who is willing to invest in safety and reliability, the bigger price is not a problem. You are granted complete root-level access and can use 100% of the web hosting server's resources without anyone else sharing these resources and messing with your websites.

Hardware specifications

The majority of web hosting corporations, including us at Westgate WEBS Hosting and Free Domains, offer several different hardware configurations you can choose from in keeping with your needs. The configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth usage quotas. You can choose a web hosting Control Panel, which is a useful graphical user interface if you would like to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and choose not to resort to SSH for all the modifications you will be making. We offer 3 kinds of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated packages via a Secure Shell terminal only. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you want to grant complete server root access to someone else who has less technical expertise than yourself. That is why having hosting Control Panel software activated is a splendid idea. The Hepsia hosting Control Panel interface that we offer does not give you complete root-level access and is chiefly suitable for somebody who has numerous web portals that absorb plenty of resources, but desires to administer the websites, databases and mails using a user-friendly web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full server root access and have three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting packages instead of using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your dedicated server, like an unresponsive Apache or an outage, it is advisable to have some sort of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Westgate WEBS Hosting and Free Domains the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would allow you to have the very same data on 2 hard drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted access erases something by mistake.
